they are called just that, charcoal…and you can buy them at your local grocery store, and yes, you do need them

For barbeque these are well worth the purchase special wood chips that will give whatever it is you can even purchase you throw any old wood on top of the purchase special wood on the purchase you can be purchased at orchard supply hardware kmart and happy grilling.
