The tank valve off turn the tank valve back on regulators have full flow leak detectors that shut the burners on then.

You have dirt, a metal shaving, or a spider nest clogging your gas ports. Unhook the gas tank, remove the grates, remove the burners. Unscrew the ports from the burner pipes, at the end that is behind the adjustment knobs. They are usually brass and have a small hole in the center of them. Clean any obstructions from the ports and check the burner pipes that the ports screw in to also. Re install the ports, put the burners back in the grill making sure the connection behind the flame adjustment knobs is lined up, re connect the tank and test.
