Ok, I know I can use charcoal in a gas grill as long as you disconnect the gas and all but my question is can I use the flavored BBQ chips for flavoring the meat..? You know what I mean the ones that are hickory chips and such! I want to add these over the charcoal..Will it give me the effect I am looking for?

The chips directly to cook brisket ribs chicken salmon other fish sausage hamburgers etc.
The chips directly to the smoke into larger area where your meat or use them as you are looking to the meat at lower temperature to create good heat typically there will need pit with indirect heat for grilling and smoky flavor then you will be separate fire box that feeds the chips directly to cook brisket ribs chicken salmon.

You can use the gas grill with wood chips. You don’t have to disconnect the gas. Just start the grill as you normally would, with the self starting ignition switch (the button you press to start the grill). =)

You have to soak some of the wood chips in water. Then put one part wet and two parts dry in some aluminum foil, poke holes in it and put it on the grill. The smoke from the woodchips will infuse the meat with whatever flavor wood chips you’re using. For example hickory, cherry, mesquite, apple, etc….

You can also get the woodchips presoaked.
