Why is it safe to use a gas stove indoors but not a gas grill?

I was just wondering about this. Is it a different kind of gas? I know that grills run off propane.

Also, as a side question, does anyone know where I can get just a gas burner that’s safe to use indoors? I’ve seen the portable hotplate electric burners but nothing with gas.
