What is a searing burner used for on a gas barbecue grill?

Friday, September 26th, 2008
Andrew asked:

I purchased a gas Nexgrill from Costco as a replacement for an aging and rusting old Sunbeam gas grill. You don’t get much selection at Costco but generally get great value for the money.

At any rate the new grill came with a separate rotisserie burner and searing burner. The rotisserie burner makes sense but what is the searing burner used for. Do I “sear” something to start with and then move the meat to the main grill? How long? Why? What’s the difference between searing something and simply grilling it?

Know any good web sites for more information?

Thank you in advance.

Christina

How often do you clean your gas grill?

Thursday, September 25th, 2008
mark asked:

I’m having an argument with my wife, and we decided that YA would settle it by majority.

How often do you clean your gas grill? I mean take the grates to a sink and scrub them with brillo. My wife wants to do this after each use. I just want to scrub it with a wire brush and burn it after each use for about 10 minutes. Anyway……What do you do?

Connie

Gas Grills: the Meat of the Matter

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008
John Thompson asked:

Grilling is a very widely known way to cook during social occurrences and gatherings, whether for a substantial group of people or a small but close group of friends.

There are ways to ensure that you get the best of your grilling sessions without having to worry about too much to clean up afterwards. The finest steak should create a sizzle that will last long after it’s been scarfed down into your stomach.

The first step is to pick the most qualified steak for grilling. Not all meats are grilled the same way nor do they come out the say way. For grilling, it’s appropriate to pick out meats such as porterhouses, t-bones, filet Mignon, and Ribeyes.

Once you’ve got the goods ready to be grilled, then preheat the grill to a high temperature and then lower it to mild temperature to prevent charring and to be able to cook the steak repeatedly on all angles.

Leave the steaks out so that they are room temperature for a while before putting it on the grill. Often times you’d take the steak out of the fridge about half an hour prior to grilling. Once you place the steak on the grill and begin cooking, use tongs to make punctures within the steak to allow the juices to flow evenly. Make sure to only turn the steak one time during this approach.

I just enjoyed a complete summer filled with some happy grilling recipes and parties with my close friends and family. We went way beyond just the hamburgers and hotdogs as well as the traditional fare. Hopefully everyone gets an opportunity to learn some great grilling strategies and entertaining ways to keep your guests intrigued through your get together all year round! It is truly worth all the effort, I can attest to that personally!

What type of repair person would I call to get my gas grill repaired? It’s leaking gas and not getting hot. Is this considered an appliance?

Lynx Grills Announces New Features for 2009

Saturday, September 20th, 2008
Andre Savoie asked:

Some of the notable improvements for 2009 gas grill models:

1.) Knob and Handle improvements: Burner Knobs, Handles, Handle End Caps and Rotisserie Motor Mounting Plate will be made from cast 300-series stainless steel to ensure maximum weather resistance and improved aesthetics.

2.) Electrical System Improvements:

A) Higher Capacity Transformers to eliminate any subtle dimming of the LED’s and internal halogen lights that may occur when pressing the control knobs for ignition.

B) Improved wiring harnesses connections to insure secure connections and proper voltage to ignition points for reliable lighting of grill burners.

C) Higher capacity battery storage (3 batteries vs. 2) for more reliable grill ignition in a temporary power outage.

D) Improved manual lighting system provides a simple alternative for lighting the grill burners easily and safely as a backup to the primary ignition.

3.)  Maintenance Improvements:

A) Reverse mounting hardware for the hot surface / glow coil igniters, allowing igniters to be replaced in the field without removing the control panel.

B) Drip pan drain plugs to simplify the drainage of water that may collect in the drip pan should the grill be left uncovered in the rain.

C) Modified rear hood stops and application of hood bumpers to improve aesthetics and sound of grill lid when opening and closing.

4.) Security Improvements: Lynx has added a security chain fastening point that allows a free standing grill to be secured with a lock and chain.

You will find these product improvements on new Lynx grills beginning the first and second quarter of 2009. There will be no model number change to the current grill line.

Comparison Shopping For Barbeque Grills

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008
Kuersten Steizer asked:

When you begin your comparison efforts for shopping for barbeque grills on the Internet, you will typically think that you will be sorting through an enormous amount of barbeque grills that you will not be interested in.

Your intense comparison shopping efforts for barbeque grills might have started because you wanted to get the best deal on the barbeque grill you would eventually buy. To some people, the best deal they could ever hope to find may be the lowest priced barbeque grill on one of the internet shopping sites.

The types of barbeque grills you discovered while doing your comparison shopping efforts for barbeque grills were gas and electric grills, grills that featured rotisseries that could be removed when they were not needed, and a variety of charcoal grills. The gas barbeque grills had many features you liked. The quick flame feature of the gas grills was very appealing. The quick lighting button was truly a miracle mechanism that would get your grill going in no time at all.

Many people look at size when they are comparison shopping for barbeque grills. The models of barbeque grills that were used for tailgate parties were simply too big for what you had in mind for your cooking needs. The functions and features were stellar, but you did not think you needed anything that was mounted on wheels, or one that had insulated stainless steel wells to keep your food cold.

Some of the barbeque grills that you looked at while comparison shopping for barbeque grills had brand names that have been on the market for years. Other barbeque grills bore name of a famous boxer whose name you readily recognized. Your heart problem would truly benefit if you bought any of the models under his brand. You knew you did not want a counter-top grill model for use inside the home.

One brand began to look very promising in your eyes while comparison shopping for barbeque grills. All of the grills in this brand category belong to a company that had a good history of making excellent camping equipment, and camping out was your favorite thing to do on long weekends with the kids. This grill could be purchased with a grill cover and the price was under $150, so you added this grill to your comparison shopping list.

While comparison shopping for barbeque grills you noticed a trusted brand from a leading retailer that matched the kitchen appliances in your home kitchen. The total cook area of this gas grill was 530 square inches, and it featured two stainless steel burners that heated up to 35,000 BTU’s. It was very decorative in its stainless steel top and had wheels on it. It was also priced under $150, so you added this to your comparison shopping list.

Looking at the grills side by side on the comparison shopping list, you noticed one big difference between the two that lead you to choose one model over the other. One of the items offered free shipping in the Continental United States. This is the barbeque grill you chose while comparison shopping for barbeque grills.

Who do I call for service on an outdoor Roper gas grill?

Monday, September 15th, 2008
Stacey M asked:

My husband & I bought a house that has a Roper natural gas grill installed in the cement pad out back. We noticed that the grill is missing a few parts, and I would like to have someone check out the grill and see if there is even a natural gas line running to the grill. If there is a line, I’d like the line capped off so that we can use the grill as a charcoal grill. I’ve searched for “Roper” grills online, and apparently it’s a company that went out of business long ago, so I don’t know who to contact to take a look at the grill and see what it would take to get working or how to get parts, so I just want the gas line capped (if it isn’t already). What kind of contractor or service person would I call for this sort of thing?

The propane tank on my gas grill has a knob that says “Open” and “Close” but do I have to turn the knob all the way to the “Open” setting or will having it turned just halfway save gas?
