Charcoal grill vs a gas grill?

I wanted to buy a new grill. I was looking for a product that uses charcoal and is firestarted by gas but in the store that we went to, they said manufacturers are now making them as separates. Can u tell me, in your own experience, which one is better, charcoal or gas grill? And also, is there a brand of gas grill that I can use with lava rocks, as I still haven’t found one the stores I went to. Thanks a bunch… can’t wait to barbecue!

Weber has a kettle grill like that. I’ve had both gas and charcoal and charcoal adds more flavor to the food.

This is a matter of convenience vs. taste. I personally would never own anything but charcoal (I have all 3 sizes of Weber kettles), and even installed a ceramic tile inlay on my deck so I can cook without worrying that a hot coal will fall and burn it. I totally understand the people who swear by gas grills though. They are easier to cook with, easier to regulate the temperature, and if you use a natural gas grill connected to your home gas line, you never have to worry about running out of fuel. There are things you can use in a gas grill to add flavor to the food you cook, such as mesquite or hickory chips, but it still doesn’t capture the flavor of charcoal to me. Hope this helps.
